Revisiting the Recreation of the Sherburne, NY Fountain

Back in 2004, the Village of Sherburne, NY’s Mayor William Acee (who is STILL the Mayor today, by the way!) contacted Luke Robinson of Robinson Iron to discuss potentially restoring the village’s original  cast iron fountain.

Sherburne had a few pieces left from the original, but they had certainly seen better days. Missing some or all original pieces is pretty standard in a restoration of this nature, however. These items were picked up by a Robinson Iron crew and transported to Alexander City, AL.

Without the original Sherburne figure, Wayne Fuller (the Marketing Director for RIC) was charged with sculpting the statue- from scratch! A lot of time and care went into his work as sculpting from a picture alone is no easy task.

Wayne then also wrote a fantastic newsletter article on the statue and fountain back in 2007:

Luckily- and as is the case on many occasions- Robinson Iron did have many of the original patterns needed to recreate the rest of the fountain, though.

Luckily, Robinson had the patterns for the original base and bowl. It is lower tier of the Tall Crane!

After all of the help and  fundraising from Mayor Acee, the fountain was restored by RIC and taken back to its rightful place in the Village in 2007.

The fountain now resides proudly back in Sherburne!

Robinson Iron thanks Sherburne and Mayor Acee for all of their hard work and we hope we can be of service again sometime!
